Grade 8

The emphasis in eighth grade is preparing for high school and learning the California Curriculum Standards for eighth grade. The best summer preparation for eighth grade is spending time reading and writing (letters, journals, essays, etc.) about topics which interest the student and/or attending summer school and taking a math class at the student's ability level to reinforce what he/she has learned.

We also recommend that you purchase/order Catholic High School Entrance Examinations, which will help prepare your child for Catholic school entrance exams. The publisher is ARCO, and the ISBN number is 0-13-121013-0.

Homework is about two hours a night.

The major homework projects are the Science Fair project, Civil War research paper (done in pairs), family background/international project, novel projects, oral presentation, poetry project, persuasive essay/speech, journaling, and projects related to subject matter.
